In Memoriam For Sister Jane: Connections and Community

by The Mane Intent | Sep 18, 2021 | Muse from The Round Pen

My sister Jane appreciated the value of connections and community. Connections is the name of a collaborative project she led together with her long-time friend and Owen Sound poet Liz Zetlin in 1994. When Jane was confronted with a personal crisis, her extensive...
For Connie with the Heart of a Lion

For Connie with the Heart of a Lion

by The Mane Intent | Sep 10, 2021 | Muse from The Round Pen

Connie Oates has the heart of a lion. Because of that, I am grateful. Lions are natural leaders, encouraging us to be bold, be wise and be brave. Sometimes we need the strength and support of a lion to provide direction and to support our growth. Connie is that person...

It Takes The Herd — The Power of Connection

by The Mane Intent | Sep 10, 2021 | Muse from The Round Pen

Sometimes it takes the herd to invite connection and growth. When I met Stan and Susie, I could tell they were both eager to step into a new role as equine-assisted wellness facilitators. So are their humans, Tom and Victoria Fraser. This dynamic duo will soon work...

Save the date! Our next workshop is At the Thresho Save the date! Our next workshop is At the Threshold of Light: A Spring Equinox Journey with Horses and Expressive Arts. Join us as we honour the moment when light and dark are in balance, and consciously choose what we will grow. The equinox is a moment of balance between what has been and what is becoming. Many life transitions live here — not fully released, not yet formed. We’ll explore how to be present at that threshold. This is an opportunity to: deepen your connection to the natural world and seasonal cycles; experience horses as sentient beings of balance, presence and authenticity. You’ll engage in a ground-based, non-riding experience, with emphasis on choice and observation; support personal reflection on emergence, transition, growth and intention; and integrate body, heart, and imagination through expressive arts. No previous art experience is necessary. The equinox is a threshold, not a destination. Balance between light and dark is dynamic, not static. Growth begins below the surface before it becomes visible. Sunday, March 22, 2026. $60 per person. 1-4 pm - see details on the calendar page of our web site themaneintent.ca #equineassistedlearning #springequinox #horses #nature #transitions
In Katharine May’s Wintering, ‘wintering’ is a met In Katharine May’s Wintering, ‘wintering’ is a metaphor for the difficult, quiet, or low periods of life. The benefits of wintering, as May describes them, include: permission to rest, deeper self-understanding, emotional healing, resilience and renewal, reconnection with nature’s rhythms, gentler self-compassion, and meaning in stillness. Wintering reframes hardship as necessary season of care, reflection, and preparation, rather than something to ‘fix’ or rush through. It teaches that slowing down is often what allows life to begin again. We are all just wintering over here. #wintering #selfcare #resilience #equineassistedtherapy #equineassistedpsychotherapy #emotional
Thanks to everyone who came out to our Visioning 2 Thanks to everyone who came out to our Visioning 2026 With Your Goddess Guide workshop yesterday. We finally had a break in the weather for a wonderful gathering. Loved the vision boards that were created with intent. The next workshop will be a celebration of Spring Equinox 2026 - the first day of spring, when day and night are approximately equal in length. It will include a guided visualization with the herd and an expressive arts activity. Sunday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. Mark your calendar. #springequinox #equineassistedtherapy #nature #cycles

You don’t have to explain everything to heal. Hors You don’t have to explain everything to heal. Horses meet you exactly where you are - anxious, guarded, overwhelmed, or unsure. They respond honestly, without expectation. In equine-assisted psychotherapy, we slow down, notice what’s happening in the moment, and let awareness lead the way. Sometimes insight arrives quietly — through connection, presence and trust. We are welcoming new clients.
