Pleased to share The Mane Intent is a winner of th Pleased to share The Mane Intent is a winner of the Peterborough County 2026 Community Recognition Awards in Otonabee-South Monaghan Business Leadership Category. The recipients will be honoured at a private county event in May. Thank you to the individual who nominated us for this special recognition. The Mane Intent is a specialized therapy practice offering in-person and virtual counselling and equine-assisted psychotherapy, for individuals aged seven and up and for groups of all ages, with a strong focus on building resilience. We are welcoming new clients. Founded in 2014 by Jennifer Garland, Registered Psychotherapist and owner/program director, The Mane Intent has become a respected provider of trauma-informed, experiential mental health care in the Peterborough area. Jennifer holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and has completed advanced training in trauma treatment. In 2024, The Mane Intent proudly celebrated its 10th anniversary. Operating from a therapeutic farm in OSM Township, The Mane Intent partners with horses, donkeys, and goats as part of the healing process, creating a unique and supportive environment for clients. Programming is informed by Building Internal Resilience through Horses, an innovative, research-backed model developed by The Mane Intent in collaboration with Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre and Trent University funded by Public Health Agency of Canada. Between 2017-2021, this program demonstrated lasting improvements in resilience, emotional awareness, and relational skills for young women impacted by violence. The Mane Intent works closely with numerous social service agencies and, since 2023, has served as a referral source for Victim Services. Jennifer’s leadership and impact has been recognized through the Peterborough-Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards, including Health and Wellness Awards in 2017 and 2022, and the Micro Business Award in 2022. Jennifer was the recipient of a Women of Impact Award in 2024 as part of United Way Peterborough’s Women United Initiative. @osmtownship @ptbocounty @kawartha_sac @ptbokawarthaschamber @phacanada #equinetherapy @trentuniversity

It’s a beautiful day to play in the pond followed It’s a beautiful day to play in the pond followed by a healthy roll on the grass. So much activity unfolding in the field today. Behaviour is communication and the horses are happy today. A child’s behaviour is also communication. Working alongside horses creates a calm, non-judgemental space that helps clients build emotional awareness and self-regulation, feel grounded and safe in their body, and develop trust, confidence, and connection. I am a registered psychotherapist providing trauma-informed, compassionate care tailored to each individual. I work primarily with children (age 7 and up), youth, women and couples. My approach is collaborative, respectful and focused on helping you move forward at your own pace. We are welcoming new clients. #equineassistedtherapy #psychotherapy #mentalhealth
Summer is demonstrating her increasing confidence Summer is demonstrating her increasing confidence as she holds space for her herd while Raven supervises nearby. Confidence grows when we feel safe enough to try. In equine-assisted psychotherapy, clients learn self-trust, emotional regulation, and communication skills through experiential therapy — not pressure. As a registered psychotherapist, I work with children, youth, and adults navigating anxiety, trauma and life transitions. Small moments can lead to big change. We are welcoming new clients. #confidencebuilding #equinetherapyOntario #mentalhealthsupport
