Working with the Body and Boundaries in Somatic Experiencing®: A Polyvagal Perspective

Working with the Body and Boundaries in Somatic Experiencing®: A Polyvagal Perspective with Sarah Scholote, MA, RP, CCC, SEP is a two-day workshop (Feb 4 & 5, 2020) hosted in partnership by The Mane Intent, Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre and Trent University. Tickets are $100 per person and all proceeds will be donated to Peterborough United Way.

The workshop will provide an understanding of trauma and the nervous system from the perspective of Somatic Experiencing® and the polyvagal theory. It will include a combination of theory and practice, including lecture, group discussions, and hands-on experiential learning. The following topics will be explored:

  • Activation cycle
  • Incomplete self-protective responses
  • Ways to explore the body’s story with clients
  • The importance of tracking states and titration
  • How to begin the process of renegotiating boundaries with clients
  • Ethics of the use of body-oriented activities

This workshop is intended for therapists, counselors, social workers, and front-line workers. It is offered with the license and approval of the Somatic Experiencing® Trauma Institute, but does not count towards the formal process of training in Somatic Experiencing®. Sarah is an attachment and body-oriented psychotherapist who combines a depth and breadth of knowledge of trauma therapy approaches and neuroscience.
