Jennifer Garland, RP Receives Women of Impact Award

We’re pleased to share that Jennifer Garland, RP, and founder of Jennifer Garland Psychotherapy and The Mane Intent is a recipient of a United Way of Peterborough and District Women of Impact Award. The Women of Impact Awards is a celebration of women who embody leadership, inspire others, and leave an indelible mark on our community.  According to the United Way web site, “At the heart of the inaugural Women of Impact Awards, presented by TD, lies a powerful testament to the significance women have in shaping our community. These awards not only celebrate the achievements of remarkable individuals but also serve as a reminder of the countless ways in which women contribute to the fabric of our society.”

Garland is one of 20 women who will receive recognition at an award ceremony and celebration held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Farmhill Weddings in Keene. Her story is featured on the Women United page of the United Way web site as follows:

“Jennifer Garland, RP is a beacon of resilience, transformation, and compassionate leadership. From her humble beginnings as a city-dwelling mother of two with a corporate background spanning 30 years, Jennifer’s life took an unexpected turn when a horse named Sunny wandered into her world in 2011. This serendipitous encounter sparked a profound journey that ultimately led to the birth of The Mane Intent, a sanctuary where healing and growth intertwine amidst the gentle presence of equine companions.

In 2014, armed with a vision to offer leadership development and team building through equine-assisted learning, Jennifer embarked on a bold endeavor. However, fate had different plans as individuals began seeking solace and support for trauma, igniting Jennifer’s purpose in a profound way. With determination and the support of some inheritance, she established The Mane Intent, laying the groundwork for a sanctuary of healing.

Over the years, Jennifer’s dedication to empowering others has only deepened. She returned to academia at the age of 56, earning a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology by 2021, marking a significant milestone in her journey. Complementing her academic achievements, Jennifer immersed herself in various certifications and trainings, including trauma counseling, equine-assisted psychotherapy, and Somatic Experiencing™, embodying a holistic approach to healing.

Through The Mane Intent, Jennifer has pioneered ground-breaking initiatives, including “Building Internal Resilience Through Horses,” a transformative program that has impacted the lives of numerous young women who have experienced trauma. Her work has garnered recognition, with The Mane Intent receiving Chamber of Commerce Excellence Awards in 2017 and again in 2022.

As a Registered Psychotherapist and the owner/program director of The Mane Intent, Jennifer continues to lead with empathy and expertise. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based practices and informed by the intricate workings of the human brain and body. Whether through individual psychotherapy, equine-assisted sessions, or customized group programs, Jennifer creates a safe haven where healing flourishes and resilience blooms.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Jennifer is deeply embedded in her community, serving as a member of various organizations and boards, including the Chamber of Commerce and 100 Women Peterborough. Her contributions extend beyond the confines of her practice, embodying a spirit of service and advocacy that resonates far and wide.

Jennifer Garland’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of passion, perseverance, and the unwavering belief in the healing potential within each individual. Through The Mane Intent, she continues to illuminate paths of hope, healing, and growth, leaving an indelible mark on all who have the privilege of crossing her path.”

Special shout out to Jennifer’s nominator and soul mate Chris van den Berg. Chris keeps the horses fed and so much more behind the scenes to support the work of The Mane Intent and our therapy offerings. We are grateful for his support.
