We’re pleased to share that Jennifer Garland, RP and Founder of The Mane Intent has joined the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough. 2024 marks the 15th anniversary of the Community Foundation and its focus on building capacity of local charities through grants ($1.3 million in 2023 to 70 charities), as well as strengthening the social profit sector through its Vital Signs reports, by sponsoring arts and cultural events, and by creating partnerships with groups like the Peterborough Area Fundraisers Network and Volunteer Peterborough.
Since being founded in 2009, the Community Foundation has been dedicated to making a meaningful impact in Greater Peterborough. To date, $7.5 million has been granted to more than 180 organizations, supporting initiatives ranging from affordable housing to education, arts, food security, and environmental issues.
Here are some key findings from the Foundation’s Vital Focus® Report:
- 220 Charities provide essential services. Everything from healthcare, social services, social justice, sport, environment, and arts and culture.
- $1.29 billion annual economic contribution to the City and County of Peterborough.
- 14,665 charitable sector employees who in turn generate $811 million in local employment income annually.
- 9% decrease in local donations since 2007, despite people in the community giving more than their Canadian counterparts.
- 51% of local charities receive no government funding, and 48% are run entirely by volunteers.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Community Foundation at this exciting time in its history, supporting its mandate to be a catalyst for change, while helping to make our community resilient and vibrant,” says Garland.
