Join us for 2 days of Embodied Equine Experiencing:

Learn and lean in with choreographer and movement artist Paula Josa-Jones, author of Our Horses, Our Selves — Discovering the Common Body.

“The mind is like the wind, and the body is like the sand; if you want to know how the wind is blowing, you have to look at the sand.”  — Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen

Horses mirror our physical and emotional expression and show us when we are “out of sync” — when our inside feelings and outside behaviours are not in harmony.

Horses are prey animals and they are always congruent: their outward behaviour matches their inner feeling. Humans (and other predators) on the other hand, are often wily and subversive.

The non-judgemental presence of a horse can help us calm and ground ourselves physically and emotionally, and understand more clearly what we are communicating with our bodies and minds.

Being seen and felt by a horse helps us to see ourselves more clearly, and develop a more conscious and compassionate inner awareness.

This two-day workshop combines working with horses and somatic movement and touch practices that expand our awareness of what our bodies are feeling and expressing.

Grounding experience in the body gives us a clear and vibrant sense of our sensual connection to the earth, each other and ourselves. By cultivating an improvisational spirit of exploration and play, we gain access to greater expression and openness.

Moving mindfully restores qualities of connectivity and confidence by dissolving the separation between inner and outer experiencing. Both days will combine movement and touch exploration working in partnership with horses.

There will be no riding and no previous horse experience is required.

    EMBODIED EQUINE EXPERIENCING helps to:

    • Learn how to track your body’s responses and  how to settle when your nervous system is activated
    • Build feelings of confidence, mindfulness and a spirit of improvisation
    • Connect with the horse using touch and movement practices that are intuitive and playful
    • Build trust in your ability to create emotional attunement with the horse
    • Learn how softness and listening create physical and emotional balance
    • Build resilience with the help of a horse
    • Discover a more authentic, conscious and compassionate relationship with your body
    • Find an inner sense of ease and flow for both you and the horse.

    Your experience will include:

Horses: Participate in ground-based activities that explore themes that include connection, touch, play, presence and mind-body awareness.

Heritage: Explore the breathtaking scenic beauty of this century farm with pasture, fields, woodland walks, historic buildings, a stone labyrinth and the tranquil sights and sounds of nature.

Heart: Re-connect with your heart and other like-minded souls — both human and horse

About Paul Josa-Jones, CMA, RSMET, SEP:
